Cultural Heritage Administration Supports Special Viewing for Seoul School for the Blind Students
"Thank You for Your Consideration to Ensure a Convenient Visit"
The Cultural Heritage Administration's Blue House Public Access Promotion Team announced on the 27th that they supported a special tour of the Blue House for about thirty students from Seoul School for the Blind in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Seoul School for the Blind is a national special school that educates visually impaired children. Although it is located near the Blue House, they had not been able to visit due to safety concerns and other reasons.
The Promotion Team, together with the Korean Women's Associations United, facilitated the students' visit on a Tuesday when the Blue House is closed to the public. The students toured the interior while listening to detailed professional explanations about the history and origins of various parts of the Blue House. They also attended a 'small concert' at the State Guest House. Jo Yang-sook, principal of Seoul School for the Blind, said, "It was a meaningful time for the children to develop an interest in our history through visiting the historic space of the Blue House," and expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your consideration in making the visit convenient."
Since the Blue House opened in May, the Promotion Team has operated shuttle buses to ensure that people with disabilities can visit without inconvenience. They have also improved facilities, such as installing restrooms exclusively for people with disabilities. A representative of the Promotion Team stated, "We will expand opportunities to enjoy and appreciate the Blue House not only for people with disabilities who face limited access but also for culturally marginalized groups."
