[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] Korea's first nomadic visual arts festival, 'Gangwon Artist Triennale 2022,' will embark on a 40-day journey from the 29th to November 7.

'Gangwon Triennale' is a Gangwon-do style nomadic visual arts festival that rotates every three years among event locations across Gangwon Province, aiming to transform the entire province into an art park.

According to the Gangwon Cultural Foundation on the 27th, this year's event, involving 164 teams (133 adults, 30 youths), will exhibit a total of about 250 works under the theme "More Mountains than Boatmen."

Here, 'boatmen' (Sagong) is not used in its usual negative sense but refers to the main agents of the event. Furthermore, it is an event created by various local organizations and residents, a 'festival of the boatmen.'

Everyone?Pyeongchang, nature, daily life, art, and local residents?is a boatman with their own mountain, and all the boatmen's mountains come together to form the "Plateau of Art, Pyeongchang."

'Gangwon Artist Triennale 2022' will be held throughout Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, including venues such as the Pyeongchang Trout Festival site, Jinbu Market, Contemporary LOOK, Jinbu Cultural Arts Creative Studio, Woljeongsa Temple, and Space Changgong.

The Pyeongchang Trout Festival site is used as the main exhibition hall, with the indoor children's fishing area, the former gateball court, and the comprehensive performance experience hall named POOL, GATE, and HALL respectively, placing artworks to evoke memories of the original uses of these spaces.

The exhibition continues through TOWN, including Jinbu traditional market, PARK, composed of pavilions and a sculpture park, and BATT, consisting of Pyeongchang research archiving, Art-Bat, and experiential events.

The six exhibition spaces are everyday spaces previously used by local residents. These rediscovered and re-recognized idle spaces are filled with stories unique to Gangwon, welcoming visitors.

As a pre-event of the Gangwon Artist Triennale, graffiti art, symbolizing youth freedom and rebellion, will be showcased at a quiet temple.

Top domestic graffiti artist XEVA (Yoo Seung-baek) and about 100 second-year students from Jinbu Middle School will collaboratively create a large graffiti artwork, which the artist will finalize and install on the outer wall of the temporary repair structure of the eight-sided nine-story stone pagoda at Woljeongsa Temple.

In particular, in collaboration with the UK handmade cosmetics brand Lush Korea, the first Lush Art Fair will be introduced at Gangwon Artist Triennale 2022.

The Lush Art Fair (Creative Director Han Jemma) tours nationwide exhibitions of works by artists with developmental disabilities under the theme "No Prejudice in Art."

For the Gangwon exhibition, works by artists Lee Jang-woo (Gangneung) and Pyo Geoyeon (Wonju) will be displayed.

Admission to the 'Gangwon Artist Triennale 2022' exhibition is free, and the venue is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Gangwon Triennale Operations Office stated, "Since the majority of the exhibition staff are residents of Pyeongchang-gun, to ensure their work welfare, the exhibition hall is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, statistically the days with the fewest visitors."
