Lawyer Disbarred but Took Cases for Over a Year... 50-Year-Old Arrested for Fraudulent Activities

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 50s who continued to take on cases despite having his lawyer license revoked has been arrested by the police.

The Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul announced on the 27th that they have arrested and are investigating a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of fraud.

Mr. A was stripped of his lawyer license by the Korean Bar Association in September of last year, but he is suspected of continuing to impersonate a lawyer and take on cases thereafter.

According to the police investigation, after taking on cases, Mr. A delayed filing complaints, resulting in the termination of his retainer contracts. He was expelled last year for violating duties of good faith and maintaining dignity by not returning the retainer fees.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Mr. A received 6 million won in retainer fees from one victim, and since complaints have also been filed against him at other police stations, the police believe the total amount of damages will increase.

The police are investigating the exact details of the crime with Mr. A.
