Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, "Distributed Power Technology, a National Core Technology and Growth Engine"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, attended the delivery ceremony of the distributed power high-speed train EMU-320 held at Hyundai Rotem Changwon Plant on the 27th.
Governor Park said, "The distributed power high-speed train manufacturing technology achieved through long-term investment is a core national technology and a growth engine."
According to Hyundai Rotem, the EMU-320 is the first domestically produced distributed power high-speed train in Korea with a top speed of 320 km/h developed using domestic technology.
It is the second release following the 260 km/h EMU-250 KTX-Eum in 2019, and after about a year of pilot operation, it is scheduled to be officially delivered to Korea Railroad Corporation.
It will be commercialized in 2023 and operate on existing high-speed rail lines such as the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line and Honam High-Speed Line.
The distributed power high-speed train operates by distributing power sources across all cars.
It is known to have better acceleration and deceleration performance compared to power-concentrated trains such as KTX-I, KTX-Sancheon, and SRT, which have power units only at the front and rear power cars of the train.
A Hyundai Rotem official explained, "Distributed power high-speed trains are efficient for Korea's railway environment, which has many curves and short distances between stations," adding, "Since no separate power car is needed, passenger transport capacity is also excellent."
Hyundai Rotem delivered the first set of EMU-320 high-speed trains on this day and is preparing to deliver the second set in November.
Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, delivering a congratulatory message at the EMU-320 power-distributed high-speed train delivery ceremony held at Hyundai Rotem Changwon Plant.

The event proceeded in the order of introducing defense export achievements, a demonstration of the K2 tank maneuver, presentation on the development status of the EMU-320, delivery performance, internal inspection, and train ride.
Governor Park said, "It is a great pride as a resident of the province that Hyundai Rotem, representing Korea's defense and railroad industries, is located in our Gyeongnam," and added, "I hope Hyundai Rotem continues to develop into a global company."
A Hyundai Rotem official said, "We expect the delivery of the EMU-320 to be a foundation for the domestic railroad industry to grow to the next level," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the EMU-320, which will be the fastest commercialized high-speed train in Korea, operates stably."
