[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, has secured a total of 19.4 billion KRW over two years, including 14 billion KRW from the basic support account (government support) and 5.4 billion KRW from the metropolitan support account (Jeonnam Province support), to respond to local extinction funds for this year and next year.
The local extinction response fund is a resource of 1 trillion KRW annually for the next 10 years starting this year, provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to population-declining areas designated and announced by the ministry. The fund is distributed with 75% allocated to basic local governments (89 population-declining areas and 18 areas of interest) and 25% to metropolitan local governments.
The county plans to use the secured funds to create quality jobs and attract resident populations to revitalize the region and make "Wando, a place where anyone wants to live."
The main initiatives include securing transportation networks in living zones formed by islands, establishing cultural and welfare facilities, creating jobs for the younger generation, fostering a child-friendly environment, improving better health care services, and promoting projects to improve residential conditions and build regionally tailored living infrastructure.
Detailed projects to realize this include ▲ the integrated year-round bridge project for the Noso-bo living zone ▲ creation of the Da-eoulim complex cultural space ▲ establishment of the Wando-gun agricultural and fishing village future hope complex ▲ creation of the Wansaeng youth village to regain vitality ▲ training of marine healing specialists and operation of marine healing programs ▲ expansion of artificial kidney rooms in medically vulnerable areas ▲ expansion of water supply facilities in Nupdo Island ▲ operation of the islanders' health care center, among others.
A county official stated, "Facing the crisis of local extinction, we will do our best to efficiently operate the local extinction response fund to breathe new life into the region and achieve concrete results."
