Expectations for the Southern Coast and South Central Region to Serve as a Marine Fisheries Resource Platform for Honam
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Cheon-seok] As Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is making every effort to attract the National Maritime Fisheries Museum to be established in Jeollanam-do, on the 26th, Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong-gun, along with senior officials, eup and myeon heads, and staff gathered at the government office square to reaffirm their determination.
According to the county, the target site for the National Maritime Fisheries Museum competition is the area around Bibong-ri, Deukryang-myeon. It is a marine cultural facility with complex functions, including an exhibition hall, experience center, research facilities, education center, and storage facilities, with a total floor area of 22,464㎡ on a 42,500㎡ site and a total project cost of 124.5 billion KRW (100% national funding).
The area around Bibong-ri, Deukryang-myeon, is fully equipped with various marine leisure tourism cultural complex facilities such as Bibong Dinosaur Park, dinosaur fossil sites, dinosaur ecology center, Bibong Marina, offshore fishing park, and fishing village experience village. Not only does it have outstanding natural scenery making it an excellent candidate site, but it is also evaluated as a location expected to serve as a platform for marine and fisheries resources in the southern central region of Honam, traversing the southern coast.
Boseong-gun launched a TF team composed of 25 experts in various fields in September to attract the National Maritime Fisheries Museum. To actively promote the attraction, starting from the 22nd, various eup and myeon organizations, including the Boseong-gun village chiefs' council and Boseong eup residents' association, have been conducting signature campaigns supporting the museum's attraction and holding rallies in succession.
The TF team for attracting the National Maritime Fisheries Museum is engaged in activities such as developing business logic, conducting research projects, and developing content to seek plans for establishing a museum with a differentiated concept.
In particular, Boseong-gun is considered the optimal location at the center of the southern central region of the southern coast, capable of embracing diverse marine and fisheries resources from coastal cities and counties.
Additionally, Beolgyo cockles, boasting the largest production volume nationwide, are registered as the first geographical indication for seafood, and mudflat boat fishing has been managed as a nationally important fishery heritage.
Recently, the Deukryang Bay mudflats, including the Boseong Beolgyo mudflats registered as a World Natural Heritage site, play a pivotal role in carbon absorption and marine environmental purification, essential for marine life. Boseong-gun is evaluated as a candidate site that is a geographical key point among nearby coastal areas and possesses both marine ecology and cultural history.
Kim Cheol-woo, governor of Boseong-gun, stated, “We will do our best to financially cooperate, including expanding infrastructure, so that the National Maritime Fisheries Museum can be built in Boseong-gun, which has excellent natural and environmental conditions.”
