Offering a Simple and Warm Everyday Scene with Analog and Digital Fusion Illustration
Live Drawing Show on October 1, One-Day Class at the End of October
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Art exhibition company Timonet announced on the 27th that it will present the first domestic artist exhibition 'Life SCENE' with illustrator Bae Seonggyu at the complex cultural space 'Bit-ui Lounge'.
'Bit-ui Lounge' is a complex cultural space that opened in May along with the immersive art exhibition hall 'Bit-ui Theater' at Walkerhill Hotel & Resort in Gwangjang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
The 'Life SCENE' exhibition, held at 'Bit-ui Lounge' from the 30th to November 7th, showcases everyday scenes encountered in ordinary places such as homes, streets, and cafes through Bae Seonggyu's warm and simple painting style.
Through about 20 modest and fresh drawing works and digital pieces created with marker pens and colored pencils, the exhibition conveys the message that trivial moments we pass by unconsciously can be special days. In particular, this exhibition newly attempts a rolling method of Bae Seonggyu's loop animations to bring illustrations to life and maximize empathy.
Bae Seonggyu, famous for the dog character 'Chapssaltok' resembling glutinous rice cake, is characterized by warm colors and an analog sensibility in his painting style. Rather than focusing on flashy or dazzling visual stimuli, he expresses humble and calm daily life, delivering empathy and comfort to people. In 2015, he was selected as Naver's 'Top Creator of the Year' and won the Naver Grafolio Storypic Challenge with the 'Chapssaltok' illustration diary in the same year.
Timonet will also offer various experiential events along with the exhibition opening. On October 1st at 4 p.m., the day after the exhibition opens, a live drawing show where visitors can see Bae Seonggyu's illustration process will be held free of charge on site. At the end of October, a 'Marker Drawing One-day Class' will be held where participants can learn marker drawing directly from the artist. About 10 people will be recruited for the 'Marker Drawing One-day Class,' and reservations can be made in advance through Naver Smart Store.
