[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] As the number of new COVID-19 cases reached the 30,000 range, the number of critically ill patients and deaths both decreased compared to the previous day.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 27th, as of midnight, 39,425 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total cumulative cases to 24,673,663. Among these, 39,117 were domestic cases, and 308 were imported cases.


The number of new cases decreased by 8,472 compared to a week ago. However, it increased by 25,257 compared to the previous day, Monday, when fewer tests were conducted over the weekend. This is the first time since July 12 that the number of new cases on a Tuesday has been in the 30,000 range.


The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized was 401, down by 26 from the previous day. The number of critically ill patients has remained in the 400s for four consecutive days since the 24th. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 21.7%, with 22.1% in the metropolitan area and 20.8% in non-metropolitan areas.


New deaths were recorded at 26, seven fewer than the previous day. The number of COVID-19 deaths has been decreasing for two consecutive days since the 25th (73 deaths). By age group, 15 were aged 80 or older, six in their 60s, three in their 70s, one in their 50s, and one infant aged 9 or younger. The cumulative death toll is 28,272, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.


The total number of patients currently undergoing home treatment is 170,451, a decrease of 11,484 from the previous day.
