[Seoul District News] Gangseo-gu, Symbolizing a Happy Family with Change, Togetherness, and Happiness & District Mayor Kim Tae-woo: "I Will Lead Revolutionary Changes in Gangseo, Always Thinking of the Happy Faces of Residents Like the BI" ... Yangcheon-gu, Onsu Park (Zone 2) Newly Developed as an 'Open Field for All Park Users'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The new BI of Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) features the happy faces of Gangseo residents.
The district unveiled a bold slogan BI symbolizing the core values of the 8th elected administration and the happiness of its residents.
The revealed BI characterizes each letter of ‘Gangseo’ and incorporates the happy expressions of the whole family, from children to adults, into the letter characters, representing satisfaction with life in Gangseo-gu and anticipation for change.
This reflects Mayor Kim Tae-woo’s commitment to always approach residents in a friendly manner, communicate with them, and create a happy city Gangseo where residents live with happy faces through new changes.
In particular, Mayor Kim, who has always emphasized that the top priority in administration is ‘happy families,’ explained that efforts were made to express the happiness of ‘family’ in the BI selection.
Also, the BI uses three colors?red, blue, and yellow?to express the core values of the 8th elected administration’s slogan, ‘Future Created by Change, Gangseo Leaping Forward with Residents’: ‘Change,’ ‘Companionship,’ and ‘Happiness.’
First, red symbolizes ‘Change,’ representing the pursuit of future orientation by drastically transforming Gangseo and creating future changes.
Blue stands for ‘Companionship,’ meaning increased social welfare by always accompanying socially vulnerable groups amid drastic changes.
Lastly, yellow embodies the determination to improve the quality of life of residents through changes in Gangseo-gu together with its residents.
The district plans to actively utilize the newly developed BI by publishing it on the official website and applying it to various promotional materials and facilities to promote district administration both internally and externally.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “While planning the BI, I reaffirmed my commitment to making Gangseo a place where children always smile happily, accompany socially vulnerable groups, and where all families in the district live happily. Like the newly introduced BI, I will carry out administration solely for the residents, thinking only of their happiness along with the district’s groundbreaking changes.”
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Ki-jae) announced that the winning design for the competition to create ‘Onsu Park - District 2,’ which was at risk of becoming ineffective due to urban development and the park sunset policy, was finally selected as 'NON FORMAT, PLATEAU_Subtitle: An Open Field for All Park Users' by design studio LOCI.
The winning design 'NON FORMAT, PLATEAU_Subtitle: An Open Field for All Park Users' does not fix specific programs for the park but plans minimal facilities such as a wide field, a park house (small gardening center), and barrier-free forest paths, considering the characteristics of a mountainous park. This approach aims to flexibly respond to continuous future changes.
Onsu Park (District 2), spanning 28,155㎡ across Sinjeong 3-dong and Sinwol 7-dong, plans the 5,000㎡ summit area, currently used as vegetable gardens after being an illegal cultivation site, as a wide field to allow visitors to enjoy the sky view surrounded by forest. Additionally, barrier-free paths are planned to enable easier access for walking-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and elderly, and a new access road directly from Sinwol-ro has been created to enhance convenience for residents.
In particular, the park house (small gardening center) is designed as a complex cultural space hidden underground, including a plant hospital, a small exhibition hall, and a community space for residents.
Moreover, to restore the healthy function of the forest, various flowering trees and wildflowers will be planted to supplement the understory vegetation.
The judging panel (Chairman Professor Sung Jong-sang of Seoul National University) evaluated, “The winning design for Onsu Park stands out for its focus on the land’s conditions, situations, and potential, and its approach and proposals to solve these through design. Especially impressive are the park house, the field, and the barrier-free paths that utilize the terrain’s characteristics.”
The second prize in the Onsu Park design competition went to ‘Gori’ by Landscape Shop Studio L, and the third prize to ‘Seed Park’ by Alive Earth Co., Ltd. The two awarded teams will receive a certain amount of prize money.
The district plans to grant the basic and detailed design rights to the winning design studio LOCI within this month and proceed with construction aiming for completion in 2023 through an eight-month design service.
Yangcheon-gu Mayor Lee Ki-jae said, “Since an excellent work was selected in the design competition for Jiyangsan, a representative ecological resource of Yangcheon-gu, we will respect the existing forest environment and create Onsu Park as a space embracing infinite possibilities with minimal facilities, striving to make it a place for residents’ leisure, rest, and healing.”
