[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum Seo] The Yeongsanhoe Gwaebul (Treasure) of Bongjeongsa Temple in Andong will be exhibited on the first floor of the Korean Buddhist History and Culture Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, until the 30th of next month. This is part of a special exhibition titled "Deungunsan 謄雲山 Gounsa 孤雲寺," which highlights the cultural heritage value of nationally designated cultural assets preserved and passed down by Gounsa Temple.
The Yeongsanhoe Gwaebul of Bongjeongsa Temple is a large Buddhist painting created in 1710, measuring 742 cm in height and 585 cm in width. Gwaebul are sacred paintings used in outdoor temple ceremonies and serve as important materials to examine the Buddhist culture of the time. The Bongjeongsa Yeongsanhoe Gwaebul depicts the central Buddha Shakyamuni surrounded by eight bodhisattvas and ten principal disciples. The painting features low saturation and subtle tones, with the names of each figure highlighted in pink shading to add vibrancy and a three-dimensional effect.
Starting in November, the Chukseoksa Gwaebul will be exhibited for one month.
