[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 26th, the People Power Party requested the referral to the Agenda Adjustment Committee to block the ruling Democratic Party's forced passage of the Grain Management Act.

Members of the People Power Party belonging to the National Assembly's Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee opposed the submission of the Grain Management Act amendment bill at the plenary meeting that day and proposed the formation of the Agenda Adjustment Committee.

Lee Yang-su, the People Power Party's secretary of the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee, said, "There has been no agreement between the ruling and opposition parties on the Grain Management Act, and despite many disagreements, the chairman unilaterally submitted the bill, so there should be a deeper discussion on the differences," adding, "I propose forming the Agenda Adjustment Committee with opposing opinions to review the main bill."

The Agenda Adjustment Committee is an organization formed to mediate differences when the ruling and opposition parties clash over an agenda item.

For the Democratic Party's quota, lawmakers Shin Jeong-hoon, Yoon Joon-byung, and Lee Won-taek were recommended; for the People Power Party's quota, Hong Moon-pyo and Jeong Hee-yong; and for the non-negotiating group quota, lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang (Independent) was recommended.

The Grain Management Act amendment bill includes provisions requiring the government to compulsorily purchase surplus rice production. It passed the subcommittee of the standing committee on the 15th through the Democratic Party's sole processing, sparking opposition from the People Power Party. The bill is facing difficulties passing the plenary meeting as the ruling and opposition parties have failed to narrow their differences.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee adopted the list of witnesses and reference persons to appear at the National Assembly audit next month. At the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs audit on the 4th of next month, business leaders from CJ CheilJedang, Ottogi, SPC Samlip, and others were named. Regarding chicken prices, the heads of BBQ, Kyochon, and BHC were also decided to be summoned as witnesses. At the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries audit on the 6th, business leaders from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Lotte Global Logistics, CJ Logistics, and Hanjin were included.
