[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Gijang-gun has set the 2023 Gijang-gun living wage at 11,008 KRW per hour.
The living wage hourly rate for next year is 524 KRW (5%) higher than this year's Gijang-gun living wage of 10,484 KRW, and it is 1,388 KRW (14.43%) higher than the 2023 minimum wage of 9,620 KRW.
This living wage amount was decided on the 22nd by the Gijang-gun Living Wage Committee, composed of experts including academics, labor attorneys, the Federation of Employers, and human rights organizations, and was calculated reflecting the minimum wage, inflation rate, and average household expenditure levels of workers.
The living wage applies to workers employed by Gijang-gun, institutions funded or supported by the county, and institutions or companies entrusted with tasks by the county.
Those temporarily hired through national or city government support for public work or community projects, as well as public employees whose total wages exceed the living wage standard, are excluded from the target group.
A Gijang-gun official stated, “The living wage system is expected to help workers employed in Gijang-gun maintain a minimum humane and cultural standard of living, improve quality of life, and contribute to revitalizing the domestic market through increased consumption resulting from higher income.”
