Jinju City Holds First Meeting of the Council Expense Deliberation Committee and Begins Full Operation

Appointment of 10 Members from Various Sectors, City Councilor Remuneration to be Reviewed and Decided from Next Year until 2026

Jinju City in Gyeongnam appointed members of the 'Jinju City Council Remuneration Review Committee' and held the first meeting.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, on the 26th, appointed members of the 'Jinju City Council Legislative Allowance Deliberation Committee' to review and decide the legislative allowances for Jinju City Council members for the next four years starting next year, and held the first meeting.

The Legislative Allowance Deliberation Committee is a committee established under the Local Autonomy Act to determine the amount of legislative activity expenses and monthly allowances to be paid to Jinju City Council members from 2023 to 2026.

On this day, Mayor Jo Gyu-il presented appointment letters to 10 committee members selected from various sectors, including education, legal, media, civic groups, neighborhood leaders, and the chairperson of Jinju City Council, who were recommended by multiple parties.

The Legislative Allowance Deliberation Committee will decide the legislative allowances for Jinju City Council members for the next four years starting next year by the end of October.

Mayor Jo stated, "The members of the Legislative Allowance Deliberation Committee bear responsibility and duty as representatives of the citizens, not as representatives of institutions or organizations," and urged them to "comprehensively consider public opinion, the actual conditions of legislative allowances, and regional circumstances to decide objective and reasonable legislative allowances."

The Legislative Allowance Deliberation Committee plans to notify the chairperson of Jinju City Council of the deliberation results by the end of October after deliberations and public opinion surveys (if the increase exceeds the civil servant salary raise rate).
