Ministry of Culture to Hold 'Lee Kun-hee Collection Regional Tour Exhibition' Starting Next Month
First Venues: National Gwangju Museum and Gwangju Museum of Art
Featuring Inwangjesaekdo, Lee Jung-seop's 'The Peeing Boy', and More

The Late Chairman Lee Kun-hee's Collection to Tour Nationwide


The collection of the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee will be showcased across various regions nationwide. On the 26th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that starting next month, the "Lee Kun-hee Collection Regional Touring Exhibition" will take place. This aims to overcome the cultural imbalance concentrated in the metropolitan area and provide equal opportunities for cultural enjoyment.


The family of Chairman Lee Kun-hee donated about 23,000 items of cultural assets, including national treasures and treasures, covering various eras and fields, to the nation in April last year. Based on this, the exhibition "Invitation of a Collector," held at the National Museum of Korea for four months starting last April, attracted approximately 230,000 visitors. To expand viewing opportunities and the audience base, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the "Lee Kun-hee Collection Regional Touring Exhibition" at representative museums and art galleries in each region through 2024.


The first venue next month on the 5th will be the National Gwangju Museum and Gwangju Museum of Art. At the former, "Invitation of a Collector" will be held, displaying 170 works totaling 271 items, including the national treasure Inwangjesaekdo and white porcelain blue-and-white bamboo-patterned bottle. Among these, sixteen works comprising thirty-one items are nationally designated cultural properties. At the latter, the "Lee Kun-hee Collection Special Exhibition on Modern and Contemporary Korean Art" will be held, exhibiting ninety pieces including Lee Jung-seop's Boy Urinating and Lee In-sung's Landscape with a Thatched Shelter.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also hold touring exhibitions within this year in Busan and Gyeongnam (Busan Museum of Art and Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art). Next year, exhibitions will continue in seven regions including Daejeon (Daegu Museum of Art, Ulsan Museum of Art, Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Provincial Museum of Art, National Daegu Museum, and National Cheongju Museum). In 2024, the tour will proceed to three regions including Jeju (Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art, Jeju Provincial Museum of Art, and Chungnam Provincial Museum of Art).
