President Yoon's Profanity Controversy, No Apology to Korean Lawmakers Suggests Targeting US Congress
"Foreign Minister Park Jin's Expression Turned Sour When Hearing the Remarks"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Woo Sang-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed on the 26th that the target of President Yoon Seok-yeol's 'vulgar language controversy' was not the Korean National Assembly but the U.S. Congress. He said that the series of responses, including the 12-hour delay in clarifying the suspicion, demonstrated this.
On the same day, Woo appeared on TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' and said, "Diplomatically, I understand why they insist on it being directed at the Korean National Assembly," adding, "They probably couldn't have insulted U.S. Congress members." He continued, "I understand, but if they said they insulted Korean National Assembly members, shouldn't they apologize? Since they didn't apologize to Korean National Assembly members, it means they insulted U.S. Congress members."
Regarding the presidential office's request to reporters not to report on the related remarks, he said, "If it wasn't about the U.S. Congress or President Joe Biden, why would they request a non-report? It doesn't make sense."
He also viewed the 12-hour delay in clarifying the report as circumstantial evidence. Woo said, "Given the personalities of President Yoon and Chief Secretary Kim Eun-hye, they wouldn't drag out a false report for 12 hours. They would have immediately threatened to sue within an hour or two. The fact that they announced it after 10 hours shows they really brainstormed a lot. They agonized over what to say."
He added, "Let's conclude that the insults were directed at Korean National Assembly members and figure out how to break through domestically. We are not fools, right? It's really a mess."
Additionally, Woo cited Foreign Minister Park Jin's expression when President Yoon made the controversial remarks as evidence. He said, "Did you see Foreign Minister Park Jin's expression when he heard that? It was completely crushed. That expression tells the truth."
