[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital announced on the 26th that it has obtained its fifth Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

With this, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital has successfully achieved continuous accreditation from its first certification in 2010, reaccreditation in 2013, third accreditation in 2016, fourth accreditation in 2019, and fifth accreditation in 2022.

JCI surveyors rigorously examined Seoul St. Mary's Hospital's programs, systems, leadership, and ethical framework focused on patient safety and quality improvement through various methods such as leadership interviews, review of discharged patients' medical records, and patient follow-up surveys, covering 298 standards and 1,238 survey items.

As a result of over a year of hospital-wide preparation, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital received the final accreditation report from the JCI headquarters, including the Academic Medical Center Hospital Program for training education and clinical research medical institutions.

Hospital Director Yoon Seung-gyu stated, "Through this accreditation, we were highly evaluated as a medical institution where a ‘safety culture’ and ‘fair culture’ based on an ethical system and utilizing indicators and scientific evidence for patient safety and quality improvement have been realized. Moving forward, all staff will unite and do their best to further develop into a safe medical institution that meets global standards."
