[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] T’way Air announced on the 26th that it has created a virtual space called t’verse using the metaverse platform ‘ZEP’ to efficiently collect employee opinions and establish a communication space.
The virtual space, modeled after T’way Air’s headquarters, aircraft, and training center, allows employees to freely move their avatars and communicate. It also features a lounge, conference hall, and meeting rooms, enabling real-time remote meetings.
Due to the nature of the airline industry, many employees work not only at headquarters but also at field sites and domestic and international branches. This environment allows them to easily gather anytime and anywhere without location constraints. On the 16th, an online meeting called t’talk was held in the conference hall within the metaverse space to create a free internal communication culture, breaking away from formalities, with the management team.
Employees freely submitted various questions via the chat window, ranging from everyday work inquiries and suggestions to the company’s mid- to long-term strategies. The session proceeded with CEO Jeong Hong-geun and executives responding. Jeong Hong-geun, CEO of T’way Air, said, “I thank all employees who have worked diligently despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19.” He added, “Although challenges such as rising oil prices and exchange rates remain, we plan to continue expanding supply and raise the operating rate to nearly 80% compared to pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year or early next year.” He further stated, “By the end of the year, we are preparing for the successful launch of T’way Air’s first long-haul route, Incheon?Sydney, and plan to introduce two additional new B737-8 aircraft by early next year.”
T’way Air plans to regularize online meetings to establish a culture of free communication and efficiently utilize the metaverse space by holding departmental meetings, conferences, and various internal events. A T’way Air official said, “We hope this space becomes a place where employees can freely exchange diverse suggestions and ideas and discuss them constructively.” He added, “Through regular online meetings and continuous departmental use, we will establish a culture of open communication.”
