LG Electronics President Jo Joo-wan Meets African Ambassadors in Korea to Seek Support for Busan Expo


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] LG Electronics invited ambassadors and diplomatic officials from six African countries stationed in Korea to seek support for the bid to host the ‘2030 Busan World Expo.’


On the 26th, LG Electronics held an event at LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, inviting ambassadors and diplomatic officials from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, and Angola. The event was attended by LG Electronics President Jo Joo-wan and other executives, as well as government officials including Yoon Sung-hyuk, Head of Planning at the Busan Expo Bid Committee.


At the event, President Jo Joo-wan said, “Busan is transforming into a future-oriented eco-friendly smart city based on digital technology,” and added, “As the optimal place to design the new future of humanity to be realized through the ‘2030 World Expo,’ I ask for the interest and support of the ambassadors gathered here today.”

LG Electronics is carrying out various social contribution activities in the African region, including operating vocational training schools, supporting cholera vaccines, and aiding rural village self-sufficiency.


LG Electronics’ domestic and international support activities for the bid to host the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’ are active. Domestically, promotional videos for the bid are being displayed on digital billboards at the entrance of Busan Gimhae International Airport, inside Gimpo International Airport terminal, and on large outdoor advertisements in front of the Parna Hotel in Seoul. Additionally, since last month, support videos for the Busan World Expo bid have been broadcast at about 400 LG Electronics Best Shops nationwide.


Overseas, promotional videos supporting the 2030 Busan World Expo bid are being shown on digital billboards in Times Square, New York, USA, and Piccadilly Circus, London, UK. Furthermore, in July, promotional activities were conducted at the Amundi Evian Championship, a major tournament of the US Women’s Professional Golf Association (LPGA), and in September, at the IFA 2022 home appliance exhibition held in Berlin, Germany, to promote the Busan World Expo bid.
