Chungnam Secures 238.2 Billion KRW in National Funding for Water and Sewage Infrastructure Expansion

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has secured 238.2 billion KRW in national funds for expanding water and sewage infrastructure next year.


The province announced on the 26th that it secured 34.7 billion KRW for water supply projects and 203.5 billion KRW for sewage projects from national funds for next year.


The national budget for water and sewage projects next year is 39.2 billion KRW (20%) higher than this year.


The province plans to carry out water and sewage projects with a total budget of 493.3 billion KRW by adding 255.1 billion KRW in local funds to the national funds.


Major water supply projects include seven local water supply modernization projects (20.1 billion KRW), three aged water purification plant maintenance projects (13.3 billion KRW), and two projects for developing drinking water sources in island areas (1.3 billion KRW).


Sewage projects include maintenance of sewage pipelines at 46 sites (87.7 billion KRW), urban flood response at 4 sites (9.2 billion KRW), expansion of sewage treatment plants at 22 sites (21.7 billion KRW), sewage maintenance projects in rural fishing villages at 61 sites (41.4 billion KRW), township-level sewage treatment facilities at 11 sites (6.2 billion KRW), rental fees for 12 private investment projects (BTL) (36.1 billion KRW), and detailed investigations of aged sewage pipelines at 2 sites (1.2 billion KRW).


Ahn Jae-su, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau of the province, said, “We will focus on securing additional national funds for expanding water and sewage infrastructure until the National Assembly’s budget review is completed.”
