[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will visit South Korea next week to hold a Korea-UK foreign ministers' meeting.

The UK Foreign Office announced on the 25th (local time) that Secretary Cleverly will embark on a three-day tour next week visiting South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. During this tour, Secretary Cleverly is expected to strengthen trade and security relations.

Secretary Cleverly, who took office earlier this month, chose Asia as his first overseas destination following his visit to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, conducting a three-country tour.

According to the Foreign Office, during his visit to South Korea, Secretary Cleverly will meet Foreign Minister Park Jin on the 28th to discuss bilateral cooperation measures on global security and economic issues, including Ukraine, Russia, and China.

This foreign ministers' meeting was arranged as part of the "Korea-UK Bilateral Framework for Closer Cooperation," which encompasses the future vision of bilateral relations. The two countries' leaders adopted the framework at the NATO summit in June.

Additionally, Secretary Cleverly will meet with senior officials of the South Korean government to emphasize close cooperation in security, trade, and energy sectors. He will then visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) together with the United Nations Command.

Prior to this, on the 27th, Secretary Cleverly will attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in Tokyo, Japan, and meet with Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa.

Finally, Secretary Cleverly will visit Singapore to attend the Milken Asia Summit, where he is expected to present his diplomatic vision for the Indo-Pacific region.
