[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] An Indian man whose girlfriend's nude photos were posted on social networking services (SNS) was beaten to death by the girlfriend's friends.

According to foreign media including the Daily Mirror on the 22nd (local time), the police arrested 27-year-old female architect Pratibha on charges of murder. The police also arrested two of the three men who assisted Pratibha in the crime, and are tracking the whereabouts of the other one. They are accused of gang beating Pratibha's boyfriend, resulting in his death.

According to the Bengaluru police in Karnataka state, the murdered man was Dr. Vikas Rajan, who had been living with Pratibha for a year. Rajan pretended to be a woman on SNS and posted nude photos of his girlfriend Pratibha on a fake account he created. When Pratibha angrily asked why, Rajan replied, "I did it for fun." The two were reportedly engaged to be married.

Enraged, Pratibha informed her friends of this on the 10th and, together with them, gang beat Rajan. The assault involved the use of a mop handle and glass bottles, and Rajan fell into an unconscious state. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment but died three days later.

During the police investigation, Pratibha denied the charges, saying, "Rajan had a minor dispute with my friends," and "My friends killed Rajan, and I did nothing." However, through a confrontation interrogation, the police judged Pratibha to be the ringleader and arrested her along with her accomplices.

The Indian police stated, "We are investigating whether they intended to kill Vikas from the beginning or if they planned to stop at assault." According to the police, Vikas's girlfriend conspired the crime 'to teach him a lesson.'
