Two Eagles... It Was "Energizer Rabbit" Kim Juhyung's Day

Juhyung Kim Wins Both Matches on Third Day of Presidents Cup
Morning Foursome Lee Kyunghoon and Afternoon Fourball Kim Siwoo Defeat U.S. Team Together
International Team Narrows Gap to 7-11... Expecting a Dramatic Comeback Against U.S. Team on 25th

[Asia Economy Reporter Byun Seon-jin] Kim Joo-hyung (20) is the youngest player participating in the 2022 Presidents Cup. On the third day of the competition, he finally made a big impact. He roared by recording two eagles in a single day.

On the 24th (local time), Kim Joo-hyung participated in both the morning foursome match (where two players alternate hitting one ball) and the afternoon four-ball match (where each player plays their own ball and the better score on the hole is chosen) of the third round of the Presidents Cup held at Quail Hollow Club (par 71) in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and won both matches. The International team, which had been trailing 2-8 until the previous day and was at risk of a one-sided defeat to the U.S. team, was revived, injecting new tension into the final day of the tournament.

Kim Joo-hyung left a strong impression starting from the morning foursome match. Paired with Lee Kyung-hoon (31), they defeated the U.S. team’s Scottie Scheffler-Sam Burns duo 2&1 (winning by 2 holes with 1 hole remaining).

The highlight was the 11th hole (par 4). Kim Joo-hyung succeeded in reaching the green in one shot with his tee shot and then made a downhill putt from 11 meters to record an eagle. As the putt dropped into the hole, Kim Joo-hyung roared with an uppercut celebration. It was a scene reminiscent of Tiger Woods in his prime. After the match, Lee Kyung-hoon said in an interview, "Kim Joo-hyung reminds me of the 'Energizer bunny.' He is already a star but will soon become a superstar."

In the afternoon four-ball match, Kim Joo-hyung once again made his presence known worldwide. Paired with Kim Si-woo (27), facing the Patrick Cantlay-Xander Schauffele duo, Kim Joo-hyung made another long eagle putt from 16 meters on the 11th hole, when they were trailing by 2 holes. As Kim Joo-hyung changed the momentum of the match, Kim Si-woo stepped up, recording birdies on the 13th and 16th holes to tie the score. On the final 18th hole (par 4), Kim Joo-hyung’s second shot from 233 yards landed about 3 meters from the hole, and he made the birdie putt to complete the come-from-behind victory. He took off his hat and roared again.

Following the victories of Kim Joo-hyung, Kim Si-woo, and Lee Kyung-hoon, Im Sung-jae also contributed. In the morning foursome match paired with Corey Conners, they lost 4&3 to the U.S. team’s Jordan Spieth-Justin Thomas duo, but in the afternoon four-ball match teamed with Sebastian Munoz, they achieved a decisive 4&2 victory over the Tony Finau-Kevin Kisner duo.

The International team balanced the morning foursome matches with 2 wins and 2 losses, then led the U.S. team 3 wins to 1 loss in the afternoon four-ball matches. The International team, which earned 5 points in a single day, caught up to the U.S. team, which added only 3 points, with a score of 7 to 11, keeping alive the possibility of a comeback victory.

On the final day of the tournament, the 25th, 12 singles matches will be held.
