[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Frances Haugen, a former Facebook engineer who exposed internal issues at Facebook, has established a non-profit organization targeting social networking services (SNS).

According to foreign media including AFP, the organization named 'Beyond Screen' aims to fight against SNS platforms such as Facebook and Twitter and eliminate the harms caused by them.

It also stated, "Documenting the failure of big tech to fulfill their legal and ethical obligations to society and finding solutions will be the first project."

Haugen said, "We will focus on practical solutions that allow users to control their SNS experience."

Additionally, the organization will collaborate with other groups working to support healthier SNS environments.

Meanwhile, Haugen caused a stir last year by claiming that Facebook's subsidiary Instagram neglected the negative impact on teenagers' mental health and that Facebook has been using antisocial behavior as a revenue model.
