TV Home Shopping Association Holds Joint Training on Fair Trade and Broadcast Review

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The Korea TV Home Shopping Association announced on the 23rd that it held a ‘TV Home Shopping Fair Trade and Broadcasting Review Joint Training’ for employees of seven TV home shopping companies.

This training was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT and took place at the Yeouido Korea Federation of SMEs from 2 PM for about 3 hours and 30 minutes the previous day. About 230 employees from six member companies of the association (GS SHOP, CJ OnStyle, Hyundai Home Shopping, Lotte Home Shopping, NS Home Shopping, Home&Shopping), as well as MDs, PDs, show hosts, and broadcasting review personnel from Public Home Shopping, attended.

The joint training event organized by the association is a voluntary education program established to comply with broadcasting review regulations for win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized partner companies and to enhance consumer rights. It started in 2017 and is being held for the sixth time this year. This training featured four lectures given by instructors including officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT and related home shopping departments: ▲ TV Home Shopping Policy Direction (Ministry of Science and ICT) ▲ Large-scale Distribution Business Act (Law Firm Jipyung) ▲ Broadcasting Review (Korea Communications Standards Commission) ▲ Related Labeling and Advertising for Food and Cosmetics (Ministry of Food and Drug Safety).

Hong Seokjun and Kim Youngsik, members of the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee from the People Power Party, and Jeong Pilmo from the Democratic Party, emphasized the values of fairness and coexistence in their congratulatory remarks, stating, “We hope this joint training will serve as an opportunity for home shopping to become a more beneficial distribution platform for small and medium-sized partner companies and consumers.”

Cho Sunyong, chairman of the association, said, “TV home shopping has endured the fate of financially supporting the broadcasting industry as an important pillar of distribution, and will continue to fulfill that positive responsibility. Today’s training event clearly demonstrates such a commitment,” adding, “Efforts from all parties, related organizations, and government departments are necessary so that conflicts of interest surrounding the home shopping industry can be resolved through fair rules.”
