[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is recruiting participants for the 8th Changwon Food Culture Festival National Cooking Contest until October 14.
The 8th Changwon Food Culture Festival will be held on November 19, with the national cooking contest as the main event of the day.
The contest was organized to discover original and marketable dishes made using Changwon's specialties and to promote the development of Changwon's food culture.
The competition categories are live cooking and cake & dessert live competition, and participants must use Changwon specialties such as mideodeok (sea squirt), agu (monkfish), pijo-gae (ark shell clam), dan-gam (persimmon), chamdarae (kiwi), and watermelon as the main ingredients.
Eligibility is open to anyone nationwide aged high school or older. Teams of two can apply by submitting an application form, recipe description, and other required documents to the Changwon City Health and Hygiene Division. For more details, refer to the announcement on the Changwon City website.
Among the applicants, 20 teams (10 cooking teams and 10 cake teams) will be selected through preliminary document screening, and the final contest will be held at the Changwon Food Culture Festival on November 19. Nine teams will be awarded certificates and prizes, including the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award and the Minister of Food and Drug Safety Award.
Lee Jong-min, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, said, “This contest was organized to discover representative Changwon food products, widely promote the diversity and excellence of our local food culture, and help revitalize the stagnant local economy. We hope many talented individuals in cooking and baking will participate and discover original and marketable representative Changwon dishes.”
