[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Ottogi announced on the 23rd that it has launched new products under the Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce brand: 'Lee Kum Kee Garlic Oyster Sauce' and 'Lee Kum Kee Vegan Sauce.'
Ottogi has been the exclusive importer of Lee Kum Kee products since 1996. The new product, 'Garlic Oyster Sauce,' highlights the savory taste and aroma of garlic. It is the only garlic oyster sauce in Korea tailored to the Korean palate, which favors garlic. By adding garlic to the Lee Kum Kee 'Panda Oyster Sauce' base, it allows consumers to enhance the garlic flavor in stir-fry dishes without preparing additional ingredients.
The 'Vegan Sauce' uses mushrooms instead of oysters to replicate the umami flavor of oyster sauce, catering to the growing vegetarian population in Korea. It has been certified by the Vegan Society in the UK, the world's oldest vegan organization. This sauce is safe and enjoyable not only for consumers who prefer vegetarian options but also for those with oyster allergies. Both new products are available nationwide at supermarkets and online through the Ottogi Mall.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the home-cooked meal culture has expanded, leading to continuous growth in the sauce market. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), the domestic sauce market was valued at 1.3702 trillion KRW in 2019. Industry estimates indicate that it expanded to around 1.8 trillion KRW in 2020 and reached 2 trillion KRW last year.
