[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A man with a prior record of being arrested for stalking his ex-girlfriend was caught by the police again after two months for stalking behaviors such as tracking her location and eavesdropping on her conversations. It is reported that the man repeated these crimes after the restraining order period ended.

On the 22nd, the Samsan Police Station in Incheon arrested a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.

According to the police, A is suspected of stalking his ex-girlfriend B by following her to a motel in Incheon around 2:30 a.m. the previous day and eavesdropping in front of her room.

Investigations revealed that A had been tracking B's location for about two hours, lingering nearby, and deceived the motel manager by pretending to be part of her group to enter the motel.

A was also arrested in July on suspicion of stalking B. At that time, the police issued an emergency restraining order prohibiting him from approaching within 100 meters of the victim and from contacting her via telecommunications. However, the investigation was closed with "no prosecution" as B expressed that she did not wish to press charges.

Nevertheless, after the restraining order period ended on the 22nd of last month, A began stalking B again. Police who responded to a report early the previous morning conducted a search at the scene and arrested A on the spot, finding him hiding between parked cars in the motel parking lot.

A reportedly told the police, "I followed B because there were still some money or items to exchange."

The police imposed the same emergency restraining measures as before and provided B with a smartwatch.

However, A's arrest warrant was dismissed. On the afternoon of the 22nd, Kim Hyundeok, the presiding judge in charge of warrants at the Incheon District Court, conducted a pre-arrest hearing and explained the dismissal by stating, "There is insufficient evidence to establish the crime, and there is no risk of evidence destruction or flight."
