[September Asset Disclosure] Park Seong-geun, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tops with 22.9 Billion Won

For Staff Appointed in June... Presidential Office Allocates 12.4 Billion KRW to Kim Dongjo, Speech Records Secretary

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Park Seong-geun, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, reported the largest amount of assets among high-ranking officials subject to the September ad hoc asset disclosure, totaling 22.9 billion KRW. Park’s wife, Lee Eun-hee, is an inside director of Seohui Construction and is known as the eldest daughter of Lee Bong-gwan, chairman and largest shareholder of Seohui Construction.

The Government Official Ethics Committee disclosed on the 23rd the ad hoc asset registration details of former and current high-ranking officials who experienced status changes between June 2 and July 1. The disclosure includes a total of 801 individuals: 26 new appointees, 43 promotions, and 720 retirees.

Among the June subjects, the high-ranking official who reported the largest assets was Chief Secretary Park, who declared 22.93 billion KRW. Park reported land worth 216.85 million KRW in Cheongnyangni, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, under his spouse’s name, buildings including an apartment in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, worth 7.07 billion KRW under both his and his spouse’s names, and deposits totaling 5.91 billion KRW. He also held securities worth 10.29 billion KRW under the names of himself, his spouse, father, and children.

Following him, Kim Dong-jo, Speech Records Secretary at the Presidential Secretariat, reported assets worth 12.42 billion KRW, ranking second. Among high-ranking officials disclosed last month, Kim So-young, Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, ranked first with assets of 29.2 billion KRW.

Among former officials, Hwang Gyu-bok, former member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, reported the largest assets at 12.93 billion KRW. Following him were Moon Yong-sik, former director of the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency at the Ministry of Science and ICT, with 12.34 billion KRW, and Jeong Soon-gyun, former mayor of Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with 11.72 billion KRW.
