[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will hold the '2022 Incheon Fair Trade Festival' on the 24th at the lawn square of Songdo Central Park in Yeonsu-gu.
Fair trade is a social movement that purchases products made by producers and workers in underdeveloped countries based on fair trading conditions to help them overcome poverty and achieve development.
At the event, the city will award group commendations to Dure Consumer Cooperative and Incheon YMCA for their contributions to promoting fair trade.
Additionally, on the special stage at the lawn square, various events such as pre-performance, commemorative ceremony, Fair Trade Challenge Golden Bell, fair trade fashion show, and fair trade product tasting and promotional sales will take place.
Furthermore, The Week & Resort, certified as Korea's first fair trade company, along with Gyeyang-gu, a fair trade autonomous district, and Yeonsu Regional Self-Support Center, will operate separate booths to promote the autonomous district certification process and their own products.
The festival, held from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is open to all citizens to participate freely.
Incheon City declared itself a fair trade city in 2010 and has been carrying out activities to promote fair social development and eradicate poverty among producers in underdeveloped countries. In October 2017, it was recognized as Korea's first fair trade city by the International Fair Trade Towns Committee.
Since then, it received its first re-certification in 2019 and successfully passed the second re-certification challenge last year, leading the popularization of fair trade.
An official from Incheon City stated, "Fair trade aims to pay fair prices to producers in underdeveloped countries, provide opportunities to enhance their capabilities, and pursue sustainable development. The Fair Trade Festival is a celebration embodying the will of Incheon citizens to create a fair economy and a fair society."
