[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] The 27th Busan International Film Festival announced on the 22nd that producer Baek Jae-ho has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Lee Chun-yeon Filmmaker Award, established to honor the late Lee Chun-yeon, chairman of the Filmmakers Association.
The Lee Chun-yeon Filmmaker Award aims to discover producers who have participated in outstanding Korean film productions and to offer congratulations and encouragement to the selected producers, along with a prize of 10 million KRW. Based on Korean films released from July last year to June this year, the first round of candidates was selected through recommendations from three organizations: the Korean Independent Film Association, the Korean Film Producers Association, and the Korean Film Producer's Guild.
The judging panel included director Kang Je-gyu, Myung Films CEO Shim Jae-myung, actor Yoo Ji-tae, and Busan International Film Festival programmer Jeong Han-seok.
Unanimously selected, Producer Baek participated in numerous independent films such as "Best Life" (2021), "Jane of Dreams" (2016), and "Roles" (2021).
Director Kang said, "He is a filmmaker who steadfastly demonstrates his capabilities with conviction in the challenging independent film environment," and CEO Shim commented, "He has contributed to the qualitative growth of the Korean independent film industry. We want to pay attention to and encourage his development as a producer," he said in his judging remarks.
The 1st Lee Chun-yeon Filmmaker Award ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. on the 6th of next month in the Sicily Room on the first floor of the main building of Paradise Hotel Busan, and the Busan International Film Festival will take place for ten days from October 5 to 14 around the Busan Cinema Center.
