[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seogang Seok) will hold a 'Light Festival' commemorating the 22nd Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival for one week from September 26 to October 2.
This Light Festival can be enjoyed through various works such as media art and Baekje symbols around the main stage of the upcoming Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival, including the Olympic Park Peace Gate Plaza area, Seokchon Lake, and Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs.
First, at the Mongchonhaeja waterfront stage inside Olympic Park, in collaboration with Soma Museum of Art, visitors can experience Nam June Paik's work 'Olympic Laser Water Screen 2001.' This piece is the artist's only outdoor laser installation, expressing the Olympic symbol of the five rings, the four trigrams of the Taegeukgi (Geon, Gon, Gam, Ri), and the traces of stars moving across the sky through light. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the artist's birth, the work will be screened three times a day (7 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM) using a water screen over the lake.
Also, from the entrance of the Olympic Park Peace Gate Plaza to the Hansung Baekje Museum, numerous 'light lanterns' are installed along Wirye Seong-daero to evoke the atmosphere of the festival's eve.
At Seokchon Lake, a popular tourist spot, visitors can capture memories against the backdrop of the lake's night view. At the Dongho waterfront stage, lighting works shaped like the moon and stars can be seen, and at the Seoho waterfront stage, a staircase-shaped photo zone allows visitors to take unique photos that appear to be floating over the lake.
At the Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs, where a stone mound tomb presumed to be the tomb of King Geunchogo was discovered, visitors can feel the historical significance of Songpa as the capital of Baekje during the Hansung period. Light installations inspired by King Geunchogo's activities are set up to allow residents to enjoy the light festival in various ways.
Seogang Seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "This year's Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival is prepared as a festival where residents and tourists can enjoy together on-site for the first time in three years since the outbreak of COVID-19." He added, "Starting with this 'Light Festival,' we aim to raise expectations for the Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival and re-examine the cultural value of Songpa-gu, the city that hosted the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the culture of Baekje's Hansung period."
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) will hold a Light Festival at the Anyangcheon Ecological Flower Garden area from September 22 to October 2.
The festival runs daily from 6 PM to 11 PM and features a garden of light themed around healing, recovery, and fulfilled wishes, with installations such as a light tunnel and photo zones.
Busking Season 2 is coming to Magok Culture Street, filled with youth and art just like Hongdae.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that starting from the 22nd, Busking Season 2 will be held on Magok Culture Street to help residents relieve stress.
Previously, the district held busking performances every Thursday from August 25 to September 15 on Magok Culture Street.
The busking performances, initiated by Mayor Kim's plan to make Magok Culture Street a youthful and artistic area comparable to Hongdae and to revitalize the local economy, received great responses from residents with diverse weekly performances.
In response to residents' enthusiasm, Mayor Kim immediately planned Busking Season 2 on Magok Culture Street.
The first performance of Season 2 on the 22nd features a cheerful stage by 'Doritori,' pursuing unique hip-hop acoustic, and 'Sejajeongeo,' a three-member vocal group covering songs by BLACKPINK and BTS in acoustic versions, showcasing wonderful harmony.
The busking performances will continue every Thursday at 7 PM on Magok Culture Street until October 27. Additionally, they will be live-streamed on Gangseo-gu Office's official YouTube channel, iGangseoTV, so anyone can enjoy them.
More detailed information about the performers and other details can be found on the 'Gangseo-gu Office website (homepage) - Notices/News' section.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, "After visiting the site during the previous four performances and meeting residents, I strongly felt the need for more events like this in the district. Although everyone is facing difficulties due to rising prices and economic downturn, I hope people visit the performance venues to relieve stress even for a moment." He added, "We will continue to provide enjoyable events for residents through various cultural activities and help revitalize the local economy."
