Assemblyman Lee Gwi-soon's Chairmanship... Exploring Issues and Development Directions of Housing Policy in the Era of Polarization
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council announced on the 21st that it will hold a forum on the 22nd in collaboration with the Gwangju Madang 2030 Forum to explore directions for the development of housing policy.
Councilor Lee Gwisoon of Gwangju will serve as the chairperson, and the forum will be held under the theme "Issues and Development Directions of Gwangju Housing Policy in the Era of Social Polarization."
Councilor Lee stated, "Although the housing supply rate in Gwangju exceeds 107%, the number of households without housing exceeds 40%," adding, "It is necessary to prepare measures to resolve housing inequality in Gwangju caused by various problems and to secure the basic right to housing."
Professors Jeon Gwangseop (Honam University) and Dr. Kim Isu (Gwangju Education Policy Research Institute), who will jointly present at the forum, plan to examine environmental changes surrounding housing policy through their presentation titled "Issues and Development Directions of Gwangju Housing Policy in the Era of Social Polarization."
They will also present the results of the Gwangju housing status survey and the roadmap for Gwangju housing policy based on the 2030 Gwangju Metropolitan Comprehensive Housing Plan.
The cause of rising housing prices is attributed to increased liquidity funds, imbalance between housing demand and supply, and environmental changes such as the increase in one- to two-person households. Housing policy should be implemented in a direction that balances demand and supply, expands housing choice, and prepares various customized housing welfare supports.
Following this, Moon Wankyu, head of the Housing Regeneration Department at Gwangju Urban Corporation, who will participate as a discussant, will explain the 2030 housing supply and demand outlook for Gwangju along with public rental housing policies. Jeong Hyunyoon, head of the Housing Policy Division of Gwangju City, will explain the city's mid- to long-term housing supply policy directions and housing rights guarantee policies.
Meanwhile, the "2030 Forum" was established to proactively discover future agendas for creating a new Gwangju in 2030, the 50th anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, by bringing together researchers, politicians, activists, and citizens, and to publicize policy alternatives.
The forum selects topics related to Gwangju's future agendas for 2030 and holds regular monthly forums.
