[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Mobile Appliance is showing strong performance. Attention seems to be focused on Mobile Appliance as the government presented a blueprint for the commercialization of fully autonomous vehicles by 2027.
At 2:04 PM on the 21st, Mobile Appliance was trading at 3,970 KRW, up 13.11% from the previous day.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the 'Mobility Innovation Roadmap' on the 19th. Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport emphasized "The future of cars is autonomous, and traffic without congestion will extend to the air; logistics will advance far ahead of passenger transportation," highlighting a 'user-centered' approach.
According to McKinsey, the global mobility market is expected to grow from 4,400 trillion KRW in 2017 to 8,700 trillion KRW by 2030. The United States was the first in the world to announce autonomous driving guidelines, Germany plans to commercialize fully autonomous driving by 2030, and France is intensively fostering the industry to showcase UAM at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The government plans to commercialize Level 3 partial autonomous driving by the end of this year, following Japan and Germany, becoming the third country in the world to do so, aiming for world-class Level 4 fully autonomous driving commercialization by 2027. Regulatory innovation is essential for Level 4 commercialization. The government is working on separate performance recognition systems and establishing operation and insurance systems. It also set a goal to achieve over 50% autonomous vehicle penetration by 2035.
Minister Won introduced the currently ongoing Mobility Innovation Roadmap in Korea to Haifa Bint Mohammed Al Saud, Deputy Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul. Minister Won said, "I hope for concrete and practical cooperation connecting mobility such as autonomous vehicles, urban air mobility (UAM), and logistics with smart cities."
The NEOM City project is a future city project covering 26,500 km² near the Red Sea in northwest Saudi Arabia, an area 44 times the size of Seoul. It consists of three projects: The Line, an eco-friendly linear city 170 km long and 200 m wide; Oxagon, an octagonal advanced industrial complex floating on the sea; and Trojena, a mountain tourism complex. The total project cost reaches 670 trillion KRW (500 billion USD).
Mobile Appliance has selected and developed products such as radar video recording devices, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), and HUD (Head-Up Display), which can be foundational technologies for smart cars and fully autonomous vehicles.
It possesses core technologies for realizing smart cars and autonomous vehicles, including automotive interfaces, embedded device design, sensor applications, ADAS implementation, connected technologies, optical design, and image processing. It develops and manufactures infotainment solutions such as video recording devices, HUD, ADAS, and navigation, supplying them to global automotive companies. Through vehicle interface technology, it connects cars and the world via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication on OEM displays, and designs and programs boards with embedded device design technology. Sensor application technologies include radar sensors, 3D motion sensors, gyro sensors, acceleration sensors, and proximity sensors.
ADAS implementation technology provides information to judge situations such as high beam warnings, drowsiness prevention, and traffic sign recognition through embedded systems. Connected technology links smartphone apps with networks, and optical design and image processing technologies apply black box video recording, ADAS object recognition control function enhancement, and ultra-low power modes.
Functions such as radar object detection and recording, ultra-low power parking mode, and autonomous driving data recording are applied to video recording devices. ADAS also applies functions that actively control the vehicle by recognizing objects such as traffic lights, signs, and pedestrians. HUD applies display functions of autonomous driving information for driver safety, and navigation is equipped with V2X (Vehicle to Everything) connectivity and ultra-precise maps. System integration connecting smartphone apps and vehicle devices is also applied.
