[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A man accused of stalking his ex-lover for several months and threatening her with a weapon has been arrested and indicted.

The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 20th that it had arrested and indicted a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act, special intimidation, and property damage on the 30th of last month.

A is accused of visiting the victim B's house multiple times over five months starting from March. He is also charged with threatening B using a weapon. On the 4th of last month, when B did not open the door, A reportedly damaged the front door with a weapon and even placed the weapon in the door gap.

On the 4th of last month, the Eunpyeong Police Station, which is handling the case, applied to the prosecution for 'Provisional Measure No. 4' the following day. Provisional Measure No. 4 is a system that allows the court to detain a perpetrator in custody if there is a risk of stalking recurrence.

The prosecution rejected the application because it included only one day of criminal facts and lacked sufficient evidence of 'repeated risk.' Instead, the prosecution judged that the crime was serious due to the use of a weapon and requested the police to apply for an arrest warrant after supplementary investigation.

Subsequently, the police confirmed another stalking charge in March and applied for an arrest warrant to the prosecution on the 11th of last month. The court issued the warrant on the 17th of the same month, citing a risk of flight.

The police sent A to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office under arrest on the 18th of last month.
