[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] HL Mando announced on the 20th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 'automotive cybersecurity technology collaboration' with mobility security company Argus.
HL Mando explained that cybersecurity has become important in the process of applying its main products, steering and braking components, to autonomous vehicles. Since signals are exchanged between the driver and the vehicle network, software technology is also seen as a key task to preemptively block security threats such as hacking.
Under this MOU, HL Mando will establish its own cyber hacking monitoring system by applying Argus's advanced defense technology. The company stated that HL Mando's CEO, Cho Sung-hyun, who is also the head of the automotive sector at HL Group, will lead the software-related organization in charge of practical work, and the autonomous driving perception technology affiliate HL Clemoove will also participate in this project.
Furthermore, it is expected to be able to respond to the WP.29 regulations adopted in January this year. These regulations on vehicle cybersecurity have been mandatory for new cars in Europe since July and will regulate all vehicles in Europe starting in 2024. CEO Cho Sung-hyun said, "Through collaboration with Argus, we will create the safest autonomous driving electrification system protected from hacking threats."
Argus is the global No. 1 company in the mobility security sector, headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel.
