[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] A woman in her 20s who killed a baby boy born in a motel bathroom last month has been indicted while in custody.

The Anyang Branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 19th that Ms. A, a woman in her 20s, was indicted on charges of infanticide while in custody.

Ms. A, who is unmarried, is accused of giving birth to a baby boy in a motel bathroom in Manan-gu, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, around 2 a.m. on the 22nd of last month, and then killing the baby.

At the time, Ms. A left the baby's body inside the bathroom cabinet and checked out in the afternoon of the same day. Around 3 p.m., a cleaner who was cleaning the room discovered the deceased baby and reported it to the police, which led to the investigation.

During the investigation, Ms. A reportedly stated that "I do not even know who the father of the baby is," and that she learned of her pregnancy only when childbirth was imminent and committed the crime because she was unable to raise the child.
