[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] On the 19th, Kim Myung-seon, Vice Governor of Gangwon Province, visited a pig farm located in Dongsan-myeon, Chuncheon City, and urged to put all efforts into emergency containment measures to prevent further spread of African Swine Fever.

At the farm, one sow and 15 weaned piglets died on the afternoon of the previous day (18th), and as a result of a detailed examination by the Gangwon Animal Hygiene Laboratory, they were confirmed positive for the virus early this morning.

The province dispatched six personnel including controllers (2 from the Animal Quarantine Division, 2 from the Animal Hygiene Laboratory, and 2 from the Quarantine Support Headquarters) to the site to enforce movement restrictions, control, disinfection, and to carry out emergency culling and burial of the livestock. They are also conducting emergency disinfection around the farm and on nearby roads.

Vice Governor Kim Myung-seon expressed concern, stating, "Due to recent heavy rains caused by typhoons, contamination sources such as wild boar African Swine Fever detection sites have been washed downstream, introducing the virus into the farm, creating a very serious situation where an outbreak can occur at any time."

He added, "Considering the entire area outside the farm as contaminated, I urge everyone to concentrate all capabilities and put maximum effort into proactive and bold initial quarantine measures to block any additional outbreaks."
