Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "No Confirmed Korean Casualties in Taiwan Earthquake"

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Monitoring Korean Citizens' Damage Status through Contact Network with Taiwanese Authorities

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 19th that there have been no confirmed Korean casualties so far from the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that occurred the previous day in the eastern region of Taiwan.


An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “The Korean Representative Office in Taipei is currently assessing the status of our citizens through Taiwanese authorities and the Korean community network,” adding, “There have been no confirmed casualties among our citizens to date.”


Earlier, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the eastern region of Taiwan at around 2:44 PM (local time) the previous day.


Local media reported that the earthquake caused damage such as buildings and bridges collapsing and trains derailing.
