Employment Support for Marriage Immigrants... Seoul City Hosts Special Translation and Interpretation Exhibition

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 19th that it will hold the "14th Seoul Marriage Immigrant Employment Fair" at the Seoul Citizens Hall on the 12th of next month to support marriage immigrants in finding jobs in fields such as interpretation, translation, and educational services by leveraging their bilingual skills.

With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, this will be the first face-to-face event in two years. As a large-scale event with about 300 marriage immigrants participating, pre-registration will be accepted via a Google link until the 7th of next month to ensure smooth participation.

This employment fair will feature participation from about 19 general companies seeking to utilize bilingual skills, conducting one-on-one on-site interviews through the recruitment hall. Additionally, job information from about 30 companies will be posted on an indirect bulletin board to provide diverse employment opportunities.

Besides the recruitment hall, consulting and event halls will also be operated. At the ‘Consulting Hall,’ activities such as resume writing methods, interview know-how, and job exploration using job cards will be conducted. Virtual mock interviews using VR interview devices will be practiced, and job counseling will be provided to help resolve difficulties related to employment.

In particular, the popular employment mentor lectures, which receive enthusiastic responses from participants every year, will be held again this year. Under the theme of the ‘Special Interpretation and Translation Exhibition,’ mentors who have succeeded in employment related to interpretation and translation will share job search strategies, vivid experiences, and preparation tips with job seekers. At the ‘Event Hall,’ participants can use stickers earned from the recruitment and consulting halls to take part in activities such as taking ID photos, making personalized cups, and creating calligraphy hand mirrors. The event will conclude with an air ball raffle offering various prizes.

For marriage immigrants who have difficulty using services due to limited Korean language skills, marriage immigrant interpreters (Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian) will provide ongoing assistance at the comprehensive information desk.

Seonsoon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Policy Office, said, “I hope this employment fair will be a great opportunity for marriage immigrants to find jobs by utilizing their strengths and to increase their employment success rate through job counseling and consulting.” She added, “We will continue to explore multifaceted support measures so that multicultural families can be active in various fields.”
