A casino establishment is being promoted in Manhattan, New York, USA, the center of the global economy and a destination visited by more than 50 million tourists annually.

According to a report by The New York Times (NYT) on the 16th (local time), New York real estate developer Related Companies and casino tycoon Wynn Resorts are joining forces to obtain a casino license.

They officially announced their intention to bid for a Manhattan casino license and expressed their desire to develop a casino along the waterfront near Hudson Yards on the west side of Manhattan.

Earlier in April, the New York State Gaming Commission approved a plan to develop up to three casinos in New York State. Officials predict that at least two of the three will be allocated to New York City. New York City Mayor Eric Adams also insists that at least two casinos must be established in New York City.

Currently, to gamble in New York City, one must go to 'Resorts World' in the Queens area, but Resorts World does not offer card games such as blackjack or poker, making it quite different from a typical casino.

Therefore, if a casino is established in Hudson Yards, it will become New York City's first authentic casino.

It is expected to take several more months before the exact location of the casino and other details are announced.

First, the New York State Gaming Commission must form a committee by next month to manage the casino license application process. It takes about 90 days from the establishment of the committee to review the license. Additionally, approval from a six-member community advisory board and land use review by the city council are required if the establishment site is not state-owned land.

Moreover, establishing a casino in Manhattan is expected to face many difficulties.

According to New York State law, to open gaming businesses such as casinos, support from the local community is required, and persuading Manhattan residents that the casino will benefit them to gain their consent is expected to be challenging.
