[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The police will hold a public disclosure committee for the suspect accused of murdering a station worker on patrol at Sindang Station. Additionally, the suspect's residence was searched, and evidence such as a tablet and an external hard drive was secured.
On the 17th, the Seoul Jungbu Police Station announced that it plans to hold a public disclosure committee on the 19th for Mr. A (31), who is charged with retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. The police changed the charge against Mr. A from murder under the Criminal Act to retaliatory murder under the special law.
After the search and seizure, the police secured one tablet and one external hard drive belonging to the suspect. The police conducted a search of the suspect's residence located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, from 2 p.m. for about an hour. They also completed forensic analysis of the suspect's mobile phone and began analyzing the data.
Mr. A is accused of murdering the victim, Mr. B, who was patrolling the women's restroom at Sindang Station around 9 p.m. on the 14th. He waited for about 1 hour and 10 minutes wearing a sanitary cap in front of the women's restroom at Sindang Station before committing the crime. The police are focusing on the possibility of a premeditated crime, as Mr. A brought a weapon from home and wore a sanitary cap.
The court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A the previous day. Judge Kim Se-yong, who is in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, stated the reason for issuing the warrant was "concern over evidence destruction and flight risk."
