[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunji Kwon] Joo Ho-young, a five-term member of the People Power Party, officially declared on the 17th that he will run in the upcoming floor leader election.
On the same day, Joo stated on his Facebook, "After much deliberation, I have decided to participate in the floor leader election."
Regarding his decision to run, he explained, "I have already served as floor leader two years ago, and since there are many excellent people within the party, I had no intention of running again. However, given the current situation of our party, I have received many requests not to avoid this role as my involvement is essential."
He also expressed his position on the contentious issue of the floor leader's term. Joo said, "Since I am stepping in to manage the crisis, if I take the position, I will serve only within the remaining term of Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong." This means he intends to serve only until the end of Kwon's term, which ends in April next year, rather than completing the full one-year term of the new floor leader, as Kwon resigned midway.
He added, "During that period, I will do my best to unite all members of the People Power Party, fend off the attacks from the major opposition party, and ensure the success of both the People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
