Chinese Illegal Immigrant Arrested and Prosecuted for Forcible Molestation of Woman in Store After 7 Years

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A Chinese illegal immigrant who forcibly molested a woman working at a cosmetics store and evaded capture for seven years has finally been brought to trial.

On the 16th, the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had directly arrested and indicted A, a Chinese national illegal immigrant, on charges of forcible molestation.

Direct arrest and indictment refers to the prosecution directly arresting and indicting a suspect whom the police had sent with a recommendation of no charges or non-custodial prosecution, upon determining that custodial investigation is necessary.

According to the prosecution, A forcibly molested a female employee at a cosmetics store in Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam, on May 25, 2015, and then evaded capture for about seven years.

Fearing that his illegal immigrant status would be discovered, A went into hiding, and considering the clear evidence and the serious nature of the crime, the prosecution obtained an arrest warrant and issued a suspension of prosecution (wanted status).

The prosecution apprehended A on the 4th, and after investigation, obtained a detention warrant and indicted him.

A prosecution official stated, “The victim still says she cannot forget the shock at that time, so we provided psychological counseling and legal support to the victim.”
