‘KBS National Singing Contest’ to be Held in Dong-gu, Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The longest-running domestic program, ‘KBS National Singing Contest,’ which has faithfully kept Sunday evenings for over 40 years, is landing in Gwangju.

Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 15th that it will hold the ‘KBS National Singing Contest’ on October 4th at Chosun University Main Stadium (Dong-gu Multipurpose Gymnasium in case of rain) to wish for the successful hosting of the ‘19th Nostalgic Gwangju Chungjang World Festival,’ which is taking a new leap as a global festival.

Notably, this year, comedian Kim Shin-young will take over as MC following the passing of the beloved national MC Song Hae, who hosted the National Singing Contest for 34 years until June.

Residents, local workers, and students who wish to participate (excluding professional singers) can apply by visiting the Dong-gu Office Public Relations Office or one of the 13 Dong Administrative Welfare Centers, or by email from the 15th to the 27th of this month.

For further details, inquiries can be made to the Public Relations Division of the Public Relations Office.

The preliminary round will be held on October 2nd in the large conference room on the 6th floor of Dong-gu Office, and those who have not registered within the period can also register on-site from 12 PM to 1 PM on the day of the preliminary round.

The final recording, held at 2 PM on October 4th, will feature performances by 15 teams who passed the preliminary round and dazzling stages by invited singers Kim Yong-im, Seol Ha-yoon, Jo Myung-seop, Jaeha, and Jin I-rang.

The Dong-gu edition will be broadcast on KBS1 on November 27th.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “As this is a meaningful event held ahead of the Nostalgic Chungjang Festival, we hope for the interest and participation of many people,” adding, “We expect that the Gwangju citizens, who have been exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, will find a place of healing, harmony, and communication through culture with the National Singing Contest Dong-gu edition.”
