[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Gyeongbuk Province held a commemorative event on the afternoon of the 16th at the square in front of the Gyeonghwamun Gate of the provincial office to celebrate ‘Youth Day’ and prepared various youth events throughout September.

Youth Day is designated as a national commemorative day according to the Youth Basic Act and its enforcement decree, which were enacted on August 5, 2020, to promote youth development and support and raise awareness of youth issues. It is observed annually on the third Saturday of September.

This year’s commemorative event, themed “With the Light of Youth! The Radiant (Young-Long) Gyeongsangbuk-do!”, was held with the attendance of Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Vice Chairman Park Young-seo of the Provincial Council, youth council members Park Chae-ah and Son Hee-kwon, representatives of major youth organizations in the province, youth communities, youth villages, and about 150 young people who have moved into the area.

The event’s theme carries a double meaning: “Gyeongsangbuk-do shining brightly with the hope called youth, and a Gyeongsangbuk-do where youth stay longer through the power of youth.”

The day’s program began with a performance by a cultural arts team composed of local youth, followed by the screening of a youth policy promotional video, awards for contributors to youth policy, the awards ceremony for the ‘Metaverse Gyeongbuk Map Contest,’ presentations on youth settlement in Gyeongbuk, and a dialogue with the governor.

This was meaningful as it provided an opportunity for local youth and incoming youth in the Gyeongbuk region to gather and interact.

Additionally, for youth and residents unable to attend in person due to COVID-19, the event was broadcast live on YouTube’s Boiso TV with a viewing certification event, allowing online participation.

Along with the commemorative event for Youth Day, various youth events were held to create a buzz around Youth Day.

Prior to the main event, from the 13th, an ‘NFT-based Youth Culture and Arts Exhibition’ was held in the west exhibition space on the first floor of Anmin Hall at the provincial office.

On the 16th, following the Youth Day ceremony, a ‘Youth Night’ event was held to allow young people to freely interact.

On the 30th, the ‘Daegu-Gyeongbuk University Student eSports Tournament Finals’ took place at Pohang University of Science and Technology, with commentary by famous YouTubers Gamst and Cltem, and was broadcast live on YouTube’s Boiso TV.

Also, ahead of the planned October opening of the ‘Gyeongbuk Youth Homepage,’ which will encompass everything about Gyeongbuk youth, various promotions such as SNS campaigns, a photo contest for young fathers, mothers, and babies, installation and certification of large QR codes around university areas, and more were conducted.

In addition, Gyeongju City held Youth Week and a Youth Day commemorative ceremony over five days from the 13th to the 17th.

Furthermore, Sangju City held youth employment special lectures and a youth sports day over two days from the 16th to the 17th, and on the 23rd, Yeongcheon City hosted youth day commemorative events including youth special lectures.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo emphasized, “This year’s Youth Day commemorative event and other youth-related events were prepared more freely and abundantly. Although the reality for youth remains challenging, since youth are the key to overcoming the crisis of regional extinction, we will make Gyeongbuk a region where they want to stay through their ideas and participation in policies.”
