Joint Campaign by 'Jayeon Dream' and 'No Plastic Campaign'
Free Distribution to Patients and Medical Staff at 33 Hospitals and Care Facilities Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ Freshway announced on the 14th that it conducted a ‘No Plastic Campaign’ encouraging the use of paper-pack bottled water to reduce plastic usage.
This campaign was jointly carried out by CJ Freshway and the healing food specialty brand ‘Jayeondream,’ with participation from 33 hospitals and nursing facilities nationwide, including Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital and Konyang University Hospital, where CJ Freshway provides meal services. This is part of a business agreement signed between the two companies in July, with Jayeondream providing paper-pack bottled water free of charge and CJ Freshway handling distribution.
CJ Freshway distributed Jayeondream’s paper-pack bottled water ‘Gipeunmul’ through therapeutic meals for patients and staff meals for medical personnel at each hospital and facility. Over about a month, approximately 330,000 paper-pack products were used instead of plastic bottles. Converted to carbon reduction, this amounts to about 18.5 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2eq), which corresponds to the amount of carbon absorbed in one year by 2,815 30-year-old pine trees.
The product is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and sugarcane caps. When the pack and cap are separated and disposed of, they can be collected and upcycled into paper towels and flower pots, respectively. The waste collected through this campaign was reborn as about 4,700 bundles of paper towels, which were provided free of charge to the hospitals and nursing facilities that participated in the campaign.
A CJ Freshway representative said, “Hospital visitors and stakeholders deeply sympathized with the purpose of the campaign, resulting in a higher participation rate than initially expected and enabling the recycling of a large amount of resources,” adding, “We will continue to propose various practical measures to protect the environment together with partners and clients and practice ‘sustainable distribution.’”
