Pohang City Focuses Administrative Efforts on Typhoon Damage Survey and Disaster Relief Payments for Recovery

Pohang City Promotes Early Application for Disaster Relief Funds for Households Flooded by Typhoon ‘Hinnamnor’.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, has decided to provide disaster relief funds in advance to households affected by flooding caused by Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor’.

The advance payment target is households that suffered flooding damage due to Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor’. Before the recovery plan is finalized, 2 million KRW in disaster relief funds will be paid in advance to help citizens with prompt relief and recovery.

The city plans to provide disaster relief funds after damage surveys and internal reviews as soon as reports of housing flood damage are received, aiming to minimize citizen inconvenience and make every effort to provide funds quickly.

Reports of typhoon damage will be accepted until the 23rd. Citizens can report by visiting the Eup, Myeon, or Dong administrative welfare centers in person or by accessing the National Disaster Safety Portal.

Mayor Kangdeok Lee said, “I hope that providing disaster relief funds as soon as possible will help ease the worries of affected residents even a little.” He added, “We will actively propose to the government measures to make disaster relief funds more realistic, such as increasing support rates and adding recovery costs to ensure the swift recovery and restoration of typhoon-affected residents.”

On the 6th, Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor’ moved northward, bringing record-breaking heavy rain to Pohang, resulting in enormous damage estimated tentatively at 2 trillion KRW and many displaced people. On September 7, the government declared Pohang and Gyeongju special disaster zones. The city received additional national treasury support for part of the local government’s share of recovery costs for private and public facility damages, and affected citizens received indirect benefits such as tax reductions.
