[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, cited public opinion poll results released during the Chuseok holiday period and urged the ruling party to accept the special prosecutor law, saying, "More than six out of ten citizens support the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Law,' and they cannot help but question Yoon Seok-yeol-style fairness and rule of law."

At the National Assembly floor leaders' meeting on the 13th, Park said, "The special prosecutor is the starting point for restoring the morality of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and normalizing state affairs."

He pointed out, "The Chuseok public sentiment was, in a word, a sharp warning against state administration where people's livelihoods have disappeared," adding, "Due to the incompetence and internal strife of the government and ruling party, the country's finances have worsened, and the lives of the people have become even more difficult."

He also criticized, saying, "While the president hesitates on urgent livelihood and economic measures and only visits sites for photo ops, the public criticizes it as a 'livelihood show.' The ruling party was absorbed in the fight for party leadership even during the holiday and neglected the ruling party's responsibilities."

He further pointed out, "Just before Chuseok, the opposition party leader was indicted, and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's targeted audit was extended again." Earlier, the Board of Audit and Inspection extended the on-site audit period of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission from the 14th to the 29th.

Park also criticized the personnel reform plan announced by the presidential office. He said, "The presidential office announced a nominal reform plan yesterday, changing the Policy Planning Chief to the State Affairs Planning Chief," adding, "The essence of the personnel reform demanded by the public is to completely reorganize the presidential office and cabinet, which have been dominated by the prosecution."

He continued, "However, the chief secretary, who is the overall person responsible for the state affairs disorder, and the secretaries from the prosecution background in personnel, general affairs, legal affairs, and public service discipline?so-called 'land-based prosecution officials'?did not move at all," and argued, "If the president continues to insist on stubbornness and does not carry out personnel reform that the public can accept, such incidents and accidents will continue to be repeated."

Furthermore, he stated, "The presidential office should promptly accept the state audit," and added, "The Democratic Party will launch a task force tomorrow to investigate allegations related to the presidential office and will gather the party's consensus to consider all procedural measures, including promoting a state audit."
