[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the Danghyeoncheon Water Music Concert.
The 'Danghyeoncheon Water Music Concert,' held at 7 p.m. on September 16 near Korea Bible University by Danghyeoncheon, was prepared to offer comfort and emotion to residents weary from COVID-19. In particular, it provides an opportunity to easily access culture nearby by holding the event at Danghyeoncheon, where residents regularly take walks.
The performance will open with the Western Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Bang Seong-ho, performing the 'Avengers OST.'
Following this, baritone Kim Dong-gyu and talented jazz vocalist Go Ara will take the stage. Kim Dong-gyu, the first Asian lead singer at Italy's La Scala Opera House, will passionately sing 'Torna a Surriento' and 'One Fine Day in October.' Go Ara, a vocalist highly praised by world-renowned producer Quincy Jones, who nurtured Michael Jackson, will perform 'Autumn Leaves' and 'El Cumbanchero.' The perfect harmony of Kim Dong-gyu and Go Ara can also be heard in 'New York New York.'
Additionally, singer Park Ki-young, who gained more fame through 'Immortal Songs' and 'King of Mask Singer,' will captivate residents with explosive vocal power performing 'Nella Fantasia' and 'Walk.'
Finally, the Western Symphony Orchestra will conclude the concert by performing 'God Save the Queen.'
The concert will be hosted by baritone Kim Dong-gyu. With his witty remarks honed through broadcasting and radio DJ activities and his wonderful voice, he plans to make the event even more enjoyable.
Anyone wishing to attend can watch for free on-site without a separate application. The event will be conducted following government COVID-19 prevention guidelines to ensure safe viewing.
The district is making various efforts so that residents can enjoy high-quality performances and exhibitions in nearby parks without having to travel far.
In addition, various cultural performances will be held. On September 20, an exhibition featuring works by overseas blue-chip artists such as Andy Warhol and Banksy will be held at Nowon Culture and Arts Center, and on September 24, the 'Gyeongchun Line Forest Autumn Concert' featuring artists like Gummy and Kim Feel will take place at Hwarangdae Railroad Park.
In October, events such as the 'Visiting Street Arts Festival' held in various parks around the area, the 'Moonlight Walk (Lantern Festival)' along the Danghyeoncheon walking trail, and the 'Mask Festival' at Nowon Station intersection are being prepared so residents can enjoy performances and exhibitions right in front of their homes wearing slippers.
Oh Seung-rok, district mayor, said, “The water music concert is the first music concert held at the well-maintained Danghyeoncheon,” adding, “Culture enriches our lives and has a healing function. I hope many people come out to enjoy leisure and rest in their lives.”
The representative festival of Guro-gu, ‘Guro G Festival,’ has returned after three years.
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced that it will hold the ‘2022 Guro G Festival’ from September 23 to 25 at Anyangcheon and the Ecological Flower Garden.
This year’s Guro G Festival, held offline for the first time in three years since COVID-19, is a resident participation festival where not only Guro-gu residents but also young marketers and small business owners directly participate and create the event.
On the evening before the opening, September 22 at 6:30 p.m., the ‘Anyangcheon Light Festival Lighting Ceremony’ with the theme of a garden of light where healing, recovery, and hope are realized will be held at the Ecological Flower Garden. A pre-performance by ‘La Percussion,’ a fusion percussion group pursuing the best Latin music in Korea, is scheduled, and District Mayor Moon Heon-il and representatives of residents will attend to light up the illumination.
September 23 is Residents’ Day, with the ‘26th Senior Citizens Day Commemoration’ held at the Guro Residents’ Hall at 2 p.m. At 6 p.m., the opening declaration and the 32nd Guro Residents’ Award ceremony will take place on the main stage at Anyangcheon Gocheokgyo Bridge, followed by presentations of resident autonomous programs by neighborhood. This year’s opening celebration performances include Jung Dong-won and Koyote.
On September 24, from 2 p.m. for about two hours, the theme performance of Harmony Day will feature invited performances from domestic and international sister cities and an Asian traditional costume fashion show. From 7 p.m., a generation empathy concert themed ‘Happiness Again’ is prepared. Following a street dance performance by a youth dance team, Daybreak and Yook Joong-wan Band will perform. The concert will be standing, adding excitement and fun.
On the last day of the festival, September 25, from 5 p.m., a special recording of the ‘National TOP10 Song Show’ will be held. Hosted by MC Park Hyun-bin, famous trot singers such as Kim Ho-joong and Jang Min-ho will perform, and the festival will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display symbolizing ‘Harmony of Guro’ at 10 p.m.
There are also various attractions and activities around the main stage.
During the three days of the festival, the ‘Find the Avengers!’ event will be held throughout the venue. The Guro small business and youth market and a rich food market will also enhance the festival’s excitement.
At the Ecological Flower Garden where the Anyangcheon Light Festival is held, busking performances are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for three days. At the inline skating rink, a children’s theme park (play facilities) and a youth board game competition will be held for children and family visitors.
A Guro-gu official said, “We have prepared diverse programs befitting the status of Guro-gu’s representative festival,” adding, “We will strive to ensure that all residents can safely enjoy the festival and harmonize.”
Guro-gu is preparing the festival according to government quarantine guidelines and plans to operate each program flexibly depending on the COVID-19 situation. Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival’ is returning after three years.
The ‘Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival’ is Seoul’s representative historical and cultural festival, a local festival embodying the patriotic spirit and values of General Gang Gam-chan, a historical resource of Gwanak-gu. This year marks its 6th opening, and in 2021, it gained attention by holding a hybrid on- and offline festival overcoming COVID-19.
This fall’s ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival’ is recruiting participants for the ‘Nakseong Byeolgok (落星別曲) Song Festival,’ which will ignite Gwanak with passionate enthusiasm.
The ‘Nakseong Byeolgok (落星別曲) Song Festival’ is a representative program of the ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival,’ scheduled to be held for three days from October 14 at Nakseongdae Park in Gwanak-gu, with the song festival taking place on October 15.
Applications for the song festival are open from September 8 to September 30, and people of all ages nationwide except professional singers can apply. The ‘Nakseong Byeolgok Song Festival’ is a follow-up program to the ‘Gang Gam-chan Song Festival’ held in 2019, which attracted about 670 participants and about 5,000 spectators. This year, the scale of participants has been expanded nationwide.
The first preliminary round will be conducted online, where applicants upload their singing videos on their personal SNS and submit the link to the post. The results of the first online preliminary round will be announced on October 3 on the Gwanak Cultural Foundation website.
Then, the second preliminary round will be held on October 9 at the Gwanak-gu Office auditorium for those who passed the first round. For those who pass the second round, the final competition stage will be prepared on October 15 at Nakseongdae Park during the ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival.’
The total prize money for the final competition is 11 million KRW, with 5 million KRW and 3 million KRW awarded to the grand prize and excellence award winners, respectively. Various other awards such as outstanding and popularity awards will also be given.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I hope that the residents of Gwanak-gu, exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 and flood damage, will find comfort and accelerate the recovery of joyful daily life through the upcoming Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival,” adding, “We ask for the participation of many contestants who can fill the tired hearts of residents with laughter and happiness through wonderful voices.”
Since the ‘2022 Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival’ is an event prepared for the vitality and recovery of local residents, it plans to organize fundraising programs for flood damage recovery through various programs including the ‘Nakseong Byeolgok Song Festival.’

Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong-heon) will hold the ‘2022 Seodaemun Cultural Heritage Night Tour’ on the 24th and 25th, centered around Independence Park and the Sinchon area.
Under the theme ‘Walking the Path Following the Stars,’ the program consists of eight night programs inspired by poet Yun Dong-ju: ▲ Cultural Heritage in One Star ▲ Walking the Path Following Dong-ju ▲ Youth Singing on a Starry Night ▲ Night Workshops Illuminating Time.
Visitors can enjoy Seodaemun-gu’s cultural heritage and cultural facilities through various experiences, performances, exhibitions, and cultural heritage interpretation programs.
‘Cultural Heritage in One Star’ is a night docent tour program at the Seodaemun Natural History Museum and the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Memorial Hall, held twice a day for a total of four sessions.
‘Sinchon, Walking the Path Following Dong-ju’ and ‘Seodaemun, Searching for the Star in One Star’ are guided tours of Seodaemun-gu’s cultural heritage and cultural facilities. The Sinchon course (Yonsei-ro to Yonsei University) and Seodaemun course (Independence Park to Seodaemun Prison History Hall) will be held twice a day over two days.
‘Youth Singing on a Starry Night’ will be held at 7 p.m. on the 24th and 25th on the outdoor stage of Seodaemun Prison History Hall. Young artists will present an a cappella performance and a gala concert featuring the story of Yun Dong-ju to the audience.
‘Night Workshops Illuminating Seodaemun’ will be held at the experience booths in Independence Park five times a day for a total of ten sessions. It includes a moon-themed photo booth, hanji (traditional Korean paper) lantern making illuminating Independence Park, drawing the Independence Gate with oil pastels, and candle holder making.
In addition, the Seodaemun Night Mission Tour inspired by Yun Dong-ju, ‘Searching for the Manuscript’ and ‘Dong-ju’s Ticket,’ will be held from the 16th to the 25th of this month. Participants follow a set tour course and complete missions using the ‘Lost 404’ app.
From the 14th to the 25th of this month, eight typography works featuring Yun Dong-ju’s poems will be exhibited on the outer wall of Seodaemun Prison History Hall.
District Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, “I hope this night tour program will be an opportunity for citizens to become more familiar with Seodaemun-gu’s cultural heritage, cultural spaces, and poet Yun Dong-ju.”
