Amazon Acquires Warehouse Equipment and Robot Manufacturer 'Clustermans'

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The world's largest e-commerce company Amazon announced on the 9th (local time) that it has acquired 'Clusterminds,' a company developing automation technology used in logistics warehouses.


The specific details such as the transaction amount and conditions were not disclosed. Since 2019, Amazon has been using Clusterminds' technology to move heavy pallets and products within warehouses and to handle shipping packaging.


With this acquisition, about 200 Clusterminds employees will join Amazon's warehouse operation automation subsidiary, Amazon Robotics. Amazon Robotics was established in 2012 by acquiring warehouse robot manufacturer Kiva Systems for $775 million.


Ian Simpson, Vice President of Amazon Global Robotics, said, "The company is investing in robotics and technology to create safer warehouses for employees," adding, "We are pleased to be able to continuously expand and accelerate this technology with Clusterminds."


On the same day, Amazon was trading on the New York Stock Exchange at a level 2.41% higher than the previous close.
